Prescription Diets

Targeted Nutrition Means Better Health

Sub-Critical Diets

These target aspects of health that are not directly life threatening, but still greatly enhance your pets' future.
Click on the corresponding manufacturer to order your pet's prescribed diet shipped direct, or ask a member of our hospital staff to get you started on your dietary plan on-site today.  Hills (H), Royal Canin (RC), Purina (P)

Dental Disease     Larger kibble and fiber matrix enhance chewing.  Anti-plaque enzymes reduce tartar and gingivitis.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Weight Control      Lower caloric density, higher fiber for healthy weight loss.   High antioxidants reduces tissue aging.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Digestive Support   Low fat.  Highly digestible.  Prebiotic enhancement.  High electrolyte replacement.     (Hills, RC, Purina)
Joint Care     High levels of Omega3/6, glucosamine, antioxidants.  Healthy weight formula takes pressure off joints.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Atopy/Environmental Allergy     Therapeutic levels of omega 3's, phyonutrients, antioxidants for skin barrier function  (Hills)

Critical Health

These diets target critical aspects of pet health, typically requiring 100% compliance to achieve the desired therapeutic effect and reduce sometimes dramatic risks to dog and cat health.  If your pet refuses one of these diets, it is VERY important to let our veterinary team know, so we can formulate a secondary plan to keep your pet from failing more quickly than they should on another less specific diet.

Kidney Disease       Phosphorus and calcium balancing.  High Omega 3/6.  Lower protein safeguards further kidney damage. (Hills, RC, Purina)
Heart Disease     Restricted sodium controls blood pressure.  Taurine/L-carnitine supplementation.  Balanced protein/electorlytes.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Food/Skin Allergy and IBD Care    Novel/hydrolyzed protein avoids immune response.  Omega 3 strengthens skin barrier.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Diabetic Management     High fiber, low simple sugars.  Balanced fat/protein.  Promote healthy weight loss.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Bladder Stones     Rebalanced Magnesium, Phosphorus, Calcium.  Low sodium.  Maintains strict urinary acidity/pH.  (Hills, RC, Purina)

Prescription Treats

One of the biggest mistakes people make is putting their pet on the right prescription diet, but still give a bunch of table foods or inappropriate treats.  While some diets (especially those found in the Sub-Critical category) can be supplemented with a wider variety of treats in moderation, the Critical category must have strict control to maintain the desired effect of the prescription.

Hypoallergenic Treats   Hydrolyzed protein protects food/skin/IBD allergy control.  (Hills, RC, Purina)
Multibenefit Prescription Treats     Conforms to urinary, kidney, diabetic health diets   (Hills, RC, Purina)
When able, use more of your pets existing food     Using extra dry kibble or the corresponding canned diet, stay true to the original Rx diet
With permission, safe fresh fruits & vegetables     Blueberries, carrots, green beans, apple slices (no seeds), vegan marshmallows all good choices
